On Saturday, August 20th at 7 p.m., Guest Conductor Robert Boardman will lead the South Bend Symphony in its only free outdoor performance of the season at the annual Chris Wilson Concert. This performance is a part of the Community Foundation Performing Arts Series, a free concert series held at the Chris Wilson Pavilion at Potawatomi Park, and is a special collaboration with the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.
Each season, the SBSO features an exclusively orchestrated piece for our play-along with musicians from the community. This year the ever-popular William Tell Overture will be the spotlighted piece, performed by joined forces of the community players and the SBSO musicians. The remainder of the concert will feature popular, energetic, and summer-inspired repertoire.
The concert includes the Broadway-favorite Candide Overture by Leonard Bernstein, Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld Can Can, Vangelis’ Chariots of Fire, Lowden’s Rocky Highlights, and the classic baseball season hit “Take Me Out To The Ballgame”. Finally, John Williams’ timeless Star Wars main theme will take the audience on an out-of-this-world adventure as the grand finale of the concert.
This concert is generously hosted and sponsored by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County. The Community Foundation Performing Arts Series is “designed to showcase our community’s very best arts talent.” The South Bend Symphony Orchestra is proud to feature not only our own remarkable orchestra, but also feature the talents of the talented community musicians.
The 2016-17 South Bend Symphony Orchestra Season opening concert will be held on October 8, 2016 at the Morris Performing Arts Center. Single tickets to all concerts will go on sale on August 29. Subscriptions for all three South Bend Symphony Series: Jack M. Champaigne Masterworks, KeyBank Pops, and June H.
