South Bend, IN — Journey across the United States with the South Bend Symphony and guest conductor Naima Burrs at the Indiana Trust Pops Series concert, American Crossroads: The Sound of America on Saturday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Morris Performing Arts Center!
Continuing the celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States, this program explores the sounds, stories, and spirit of the nation through music that has defined generations. Audiences will travel from Aaron Coplandʼs sweeping Appalachian Spring to beloved favorites inspired by the iconic Route 66, creating a concert that captures the landscapes, communities, and traditions that make America unique.
Whether evoking the beauty of wide-open prairies, the excitement of the open highway, or the nostalgia of familiar melodies, American Crossroads: The Sound of America offers an evening of music that celebrates the country’s rich cultural heritage and enduring spirit.

About Naima Burrs
Naima Burrs, D.M.A. is a violinist and conductor from Richmond, Virginia, recognized for her dynamic artistry and commitment to championing the music of diverse composers. She serves as Director of Orchestral Activities at Virginia State University and conducts the University of Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Burrs is also the Youth Concert Conductor for the National Philharmonic, leading educational performances at the Music Center at Strathmore.
A sought-after guest conductor, Burrs has appeared with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic, and Richmond Ballet, leading performances of The Nutcracker. She studied with Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Conducting Academy of the Domaine Forget International Music Festival and was among 36 conductors selected for the final round of the 2025 Antal Dorati International Conducting Competition in Budapest.
An active violinist and dedicated educator, Burrs frequently performs with regional orchestras and serves as a guest clinician for youth orchestras and all-state ensembles across the country.
