SOUTH BEND, IN — George Frideric Handel’s spark meets today’s bold new voices at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 11 with Musician Favorites: From Jennet at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Guest conductor Fernanda Lastra leads this dynamic concert, featuring Principal Oboist Jennet Ingle in the world premiere of a new concerto written especially for her!

The program opens with George Frideric Handel’s “Entrance of the Queen of Sheba” and selections from his beloved Water Music Suite No. 2, evoking the elegance and grandeur of the Baroque era. From there, the evening unfolds into a showcase of living composers whose works illuminate the diversity and creativity of today’s contemporary symphonic music scene.

Audiences will experience Spectacle of Light by Stacy Garrop, a vivid celebration of radiance and movement; Daughter of the Stars by Heather Niemi Savage, a lyrical work inspired by the beauty of the natural world; and Obertura Tanguera, homenaje a Astor Piazzolla by Argentine composer Esteban Benzecry, a fiery and rhythmically charged tribute to the tango master himself.

All This to Say, a new concerto for oboe and chamber orchestra by Kincaid Rabb, is a heartfelt work that offers a deeply personal reflection on connection, expression, and musical storytelling.

The South Bend Symphony Orchestra is grateful to its Season Sponsor Jack M. Champaigne for his support of the June H. Edwards Mosaic Series.
