Celebrate the ‘Music of the Night’ as the cast of Broadway smash Wicked joins the South Bend Symphony Orchestra for a ‘gravity defying’ performance Saturday, February 13 at 8 p.m. at the Morris Performing Arts Center.
The multitalented vocalists and former cast members of Wicked will perform fan-favorites from their Tony Award winning show and show stopping tunes from other Broadway classics including Stephen Sondheim’s Gypsy and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s wildly successful Phantom of the Opera, Broadway’s longest running production.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book bearing the same name as the musical, Wicked has been box office gold since its Broadway debut in 2003. The magic of the prequel to L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz has enchanted more than 38 million theatre goers, generated more than $3.1 billion in ticket sales and has cemented its place in history as the eleventh-longest running show in Broadway history. Wicked tells the story of two young women, Glinda the Good and her dearest friend Elphaba, who later transforms into the feared antagonist of The Wizard of Oz, the Wicked Witch of the West.
The two remarkable vocalists, in addition to other stars, travel the nation bringing the joys of Broadway to fans across the United States. The SBSO presents this Broadway-inspired evening in celebration of music and love on Valentine’s Day weekend.
