Join us the South Bend Symphony Orchestra for a magical afternoon of stories, music, and creativity at Tales + Tunes! On Saturday, June 27th from Noon to 1:30 PM, the Main Library’s Story House will come alive as South Bend Symphony musician and author Diana Shelton Ford and illustrator Lee Bauman bring their beloved children’s book, Long Neck Lucy Learns the Watusi, to life!
Travel the world through story, song, and dance as Diana and the main character, Lucy, takes young readers on a delightful journey filled with charming rhymes and beautiful illustrations. Following the interactive storytelling, children will have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on craft activity, as well as try their hand at some step-by-step drawings with illustrator Lee Bauman. Autographed copies of their book will also be available for purchase for $15.
About Diana Shelton Ford

Diana Shelton Ford was born in Waukegan, Illinois She is a former orchestra teacher and private music instructor. Currently, Diana plays string bass in the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. Books, classical guitar, and amateur birdwatching are her favorite pastimes. Diana lives in Michigan City, Indiana where she and her husband raised their two daughters Katherine and Shelby.
About Lee Bauman

Lee Bauman is a Fine Artist, Designer, Educator, and Illustrator who creates uplifting, colorful, and heartwarming art. After earning her degrees in both Fine Arts and Business Management from Bethel College, Lee launched her career as a Graphic Artist at St. Andrew’s Products in Michigan City, where she designed digital logos for corporate golf attire and events.
Encouraged by friends, Lee developed a passion for book illustration, expanding her artistic work by creating colorful and imaginative images for authors and bringing their words to life. In addition, Lee has shared her artwork widely, from regional outdoor art festivals and art shows to indoor gallery exhibitions alongside fellow artists.
Lee’s dedication to the arts extends beyond her own artistic abilities. She has been awarded funding from the Indiana Arts Commission to collaborate with Art Centers in teaching older adults, reflecting her belief in the importance of sharing skills within the community.
