South Bend, IN — The South Bend Symphony Orchestra brings Dvořák’s Cello Concerto for an evocative program that explores the power of the sea, the vibrancy of color, and the profound emotional depth of one of the cello’s greatest masterpieces on Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Morris Performing Arts Center. Internationally acclaimed cellist Joshua Roman joins the Orchestra as soloist in Antonín Dvořák’s iconic Cello Concerto in B minor.

The concert opens with Benjamin Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes” from Peter Grimes, paired with Anna Clyne’s Color Field, offering audiences a journey from vivid orchestral storytelling to bold, contemporary expression. Together, these works set the stage for the emotional depth of Dvořák’s concerto.

The concert culminates with Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor, performed by Joshua Roman. Written during Dvořák’s time in the United States, the concerto blends Bohemian lyricism with deep personal feeling. From the commanding opening movement to the introspective Adagio, and the quietly powerful conclusion, the concerto stands as one of the most beloved works in the cello repertoire.

The South Bend Symphony Orchestra is grateful to Jack M. Champaigne for supporting the Masterworks Series and Merrill a Bank of America Company: Kahn Ruthrauff & Associates for presenting this concert.
