On Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. at the Morris Performing Arts Center, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra will perform Broadway blockbusters in a Rodgers & Hammerstein Celebration. Led by guest conductor Gerald Steichen, the South Bend Symphony and a fabulous Broadway duo will bring the most-loved show-tunes back to life once again.
Composer Richard Rodgers and Lyricist Oscar Hammerstein, an infamous musical theatre team during Broadway’s Golden Age, are best known for their outstandingly successful Broadway shows in the 1940s and 1950s. The SBSO concert program includes selections from many of their award-winning shows, including The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, The King and I, Carousel, and South Pacific. “People Will Say We’re In Love” with all of the memorable tunes that have filled stages for decades.
The concert will feature vocalists Christiane Noll and William Michals, fresh from the Broadway stage. Christiane Noll, a Tony award-nominated performer, most recently starred on Broadway in a revival of Ragtime and is a frequent guest soloist for symphonies across the nation. William Michals also recently appeared on Broadway in the landmark revival of South Pacific and is a well-known performer in many of New York’s finest theaters.
Guest conductor Gerald Steichen, one of America’s most versatile conductors, is an expert in much of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s music; so much so that he will be leading the upcoming National tour of The King and I. He is currently the Music Director of the Macon Symphony Orchestra, and has served as Principal Pops Conductor of three different symphonies over the last twenty years.
The concert is made possible through the generosity of our Series Sponsor KeyBank and Concert Co-Sponsors The Commodore Corporation and LaSalle Bristol.
