A Message from Our Executive Director

Welcome to the South Bend’s Symphony’s 2016-17 Season of Discovery!  This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter – upon the retirement of our beloved Maestro Tsung Yeh, the SBSO is looking for a new Music Director.

During his remarkable 28-year tenure, Maestro Tsung Yeh has taken the orchestra to new artistic heights and was instrumental in establishing its reputation as one of the best regional orchestras in the country.  In recognition of these accomplishments, he has been named SBSO’s Conductor Laureate and will be coming back onto the podium to conduct two programs this Season.  We are truly grateful for all that our beloved Maestro has done for our organization, our city, and our community!

As part of the search process, this Season we will feature five Music Director Candidates here on our stage.  These accomplished conductors were selected among 169 applicants world-wide – a true testament to the Symphony’s growing prestige.  We sincerely hope you will attend each of the five Jack M. Champaigne Masterworks Series concerts, provide us with crucial feedback, and become a part of the SBSO’s history as we select our new artistic leader!

This Season we will continue to bring high-caliber performances; world-renowned artists; a number of thrilling collaborations with our partners, including IU South Bend, South Bend Chamber Singers, Sphinx, and University of Notre Dame; and a great variety of exciting programs, all performed by your remarkable orchestra.  From the staples of the classical music repertoire, such as Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, and Elgar’s Cello Concerto, to popular programs including Music of John Williams and Led Zeppelin, as well as our family-friendly performances including Home for the Holidays matinee, the 2016-17 Season offers something for everyone.

All of the SBSO performances and programs are made possible through the generosity of our donors and sponsors, the loyalty of our subscribers, and the attendance of our patrons like you, so THANK YOU for your support!

We look forward to seeing you at future concerts!
